Class
: Triazolinone, protoporphyrin oxygenase (PPO) inhibitor
Action : Post-emergence, contact
and selective herbicide
Composition : Carfentrazone-ethyl
40%
Activity :
Aurora is a Post-emergence, contact and selective
cereal herbicide which has high control efficacy on broadleaf weeds.
Aurora is also used in minimum tillage systems as a tank-mix with
Wipeout (Glyphosate) to control glyphosate misses such as Wondereing
jew (Comellina bingelenses), Black jack, Portulaca
spp etc to provide a more comprehensive weed control.
Aurora controls weeds through a process of membrane disruption in
the chlorophyll biosynthesis pathway and leads to subsequent build-up
of phytotoxic intermediates. Plants treated with Aurora become necrotic
and die shortly after. Initial symptoms are observed within hours
and death occurs within seven days.

Crop Range
:
Wheat and Barley; it works best when weeds are young. The crop should
be sprayed from second leaf to end of tillering or second node (GS12
to GS32) for minimum injury. Rates
and Method of application
Apply 40 – 80 g of Aurora in a Ha using low volume flood jet
nozzle. Ensure you maintain good agitation during mixing and application.
Use 200 – 400 litres of water at 3 – 4 bars pressure.
Ensure proper coverage of the target weeds noting the younger and
succulent the weeds the better the control. The lower dosage is
suitable for weeds like Solanum nigrum, Amaranthus spp, Capsella
bursa-pastoris, Chinopodium album and Galium spp. Others may require
a higher rate. The water should be of acidic pH (5 – 6.5)
for best results. Aurora is hydrolyzed in alkaline medium.
Special
advantages
|
|
|
(1) |
Aurora is a
contact herbicide; its efficacy is dependent on proper spray coverage. |
|
|
|
|
|
(2) |
Aurora works on the aerial
parts of the weed plant, therefore its performance is not influenced
by soil type, organic matter content and pH. |
|
|
|
|
|
(3) |
Aurora has good rain fastness
qualities. Aurora is rapidly absorbed by the foliage of treated plants
and no loss of activity if rain comes 2 hours after application. Symplastic
phloem movement is assumed to be limited based on rapid foliar desiccation. |
|
|
|
|
|
(4) |
Aurora‘s performance
is not influenced by air temperatures during spray. Timing of Aurora
application is important for reliable control of weeds, when most
weeds have germinated and are below 6 leaves or below 20 cm height. |
|
|
|
|
|
(5) |
Aurora dissipates rapidly
in field soils to non-active hydrolysis metabolites half-life <
1.5 days. There’s no effect to replacement crops (when there’s
crop failure after Aurora application). Aurora and its metabolites
are not mobile in soil, they are strongly adsorbed to soil, no residues
are detectable at 20 cm in studies. |
|
|
|
|
|
(6) |
Aurora has no effect on
succeeding crops i.e. those planted after harvesting crop treated
with it. Aurora does not leave any residues to harvested grains. It
has no negative effect on yields, and quality on grain cereals, nor
any effect on seed grain germination viability. |
|
|
|
|
|
(7) |
Aurora is not volatile,
neighbouring crops may not suffer adversely from vapour drifts. |
|
|
|
|
|
(8) |
Aurora is environmentally
friendly because it is used at small dosage rates, has no effect at
recommended rates, on earthworms, most soil micro-organisms, predatory
mites (Typhlodromus pyri), aphid parasites (Aphidius rhopalosiphi).
Aurora has low mammalian toxicityand is rapidly excreted though urine
and feaces. |

Use
limitation:
Do not use Aurora if rain is expected in 2 hours. Avoid any contact
of the spray with Aurora to no-target plants. Aurora should not be
applied to stressed crop (water, floods etc). Avoid intense spray
drifts onto broadleaf crops especially vegetables.
Precautions:
Ensure that all equipment is thoroughly washed out with clean water
to avoid damage to sensitive crops from the use of Auroa contaminated
sprayers. Wear recommended clothing, do not eat, drink or smoke
when applying. Wash body, clothes and equipment thoroughly after
application.
Compatibility
Aurora can be tank-mixed with Wipeout, this synergizes both products’
efficacy and expands the weeds cover spectrum. Some weeds which
are resistant to glyphoste like Comelina spp are effectively controlled.
Measure 15g Aurora mix in the spray tank, and add 1lt Wipeout in
the required amount of water (200 – 400 lts) and apply in
a Ha.
Storage:
Store in original properly sealed containers, away from children,
livestock and feedstuffs.
Other Formulations:
AURORA TURBO – Made from formulating Carfentrazone-ethyl +
MCPP. It has a broader weed spectrum of control, because MCPP controls
most annual grasses (while not destroying the Wheat or Barley crop)
like Setaria spp, Panicum spp, Eleusine spp, Digitaria spp and some
broad leaves as well. Use AURORA TURBO at a rate of 1.5 –
5 kg/Ha depending on weed infestation. Treatment should be done
when weeds and the crop are as young as possible for best results.
