Class:
Carbamate
Action: Insecticide / Nematicide
Composition: Carbofuran
Activity:
Furadan® is broad spectrum carbamate Insecticide / Nematicide
which acts on pests through direct contact or by ingestion. Soil
application of Furadan® controls foliar pests by systemic action
in the plant. When Furadan® is applied as a seed treatment,
it protect young seedlings from soil-based pests. Furadan® controls
nematodes (root Knot, spiral, lance, barrowing, and lesion), weevils,
thrips aphids, white flies and many other pests.
Crop Range:
Furadan® can be used in Coffee, Bananas, maize, groundnuts,
potatoes, rice, sugarcane, pyrethrum, tobacco and vegetable nurseries.
Rate, Timing and Method
of Application:
Furadan®5G is soil applied in coffee, place 40 gm Furadan®
granules in a circular band under tree canopy and work the soil
to incorporate, in potatoes place 1gm around each seed and in maize
place 2 gm Furadan® at each planting hole before covering it
respectively. In vegetables place 1 gm Furadan® in open planting
hole at transplanting. For bananas and pyrethrum, apply twice a
year at the onset of the rains by placing 60 gm Furadan® granules
round each stool and incorporate with soil. In tobacco, place 2
gm Furadan® in each open transplanting hole and for nurseries,
broadcast 20 gm per m2 of Furadan® granules and incorporate
lightly in the seedbed before planting. Ensure adequate soil moisture
after applying Furadan® 5G.
Contradictions:
Furadan® 5G should not be applied to crop near harvesting period.
Precautions:
Furadan® is toxic to fish and should not be
poured directly into watercourses. Furadan® is toxic to birds,
livestock and wild game if ingested. However crops treated at recommended
rate of Furadan® do not present any hazard to livestock or foraging
bees.
Storage:
Store Furadan® in tightly closed clearly labeled original containers
under lock and key, away from children, animals, unauthorized personnel,
food and feedstuffs. It should be kept away from fires and heat
sources.
Pre-Harvest Interval: 35 days in vegetables and
fruits
Furadan is available in many different formulations
e.g. Furadan® 10G, Furadan® 4F, Furadan® ST etc for
different uses.
Furadan® 4F
This is a highly soluble formulation for use exclusively in drip
and micro irrigation systems. It effectively controls nematodes
and soil-borne pests and also foliar pests including mites in ornamentals
and mealy bugs in pineapples.
Rate, Timing
and Method of Application:
Furadan® 4F fits well in IPM programs on nematode management.
On established crop, apply 18 lts Furadan® 4F per Ha after every
3 (three) months. Reduce the application interval depending on the
infestation. Furadan® 4F should be applied as routine program
but should be alternated with other nematicides of different chemistries
eg Rugby (cadusafos) and Pl plus (Peaecilomyces lilacinus). Furadan®
4F should be applied through drip or micro irrigation systems.
